"Afrofuturism is a literary and cultural aesthetic that combines elements of science fiction, historical fiction, fantasy, Afrocentricity, and magic realism with non-Western cosmologies in order to critique not only the present-day dilemmas of people of color, but also to revise, interrogate, and re-examine the historical events of the past."
BlackWorldCinema™- Chicago and Afrofuturism849.org are looking for films that reflect the Afrofuturist aesthetic from short to feature, animation and documentary.
Now in it's 5th year, the festival takes place the month of February on Chicago's South Side at the Studio Movie Grill Chatham Theater and Chicago Filmmakers on the North Side.
Through our festival we want to nurture and present filmmakers working in the area of sci-fi, fantasy, horror, steamfunk, surrealist, documentary and just plain experimentally funky frames.
Winners will receive trophies for Best Film and Audience Award and be offered revenue sharing deals for streaming on the our bwcTV.tv movie channel.
Entries must be submitted by online link to a passworded file on Vimeo or Youtube.
We accept films made in 2017 and 2018 for our 2018 competition.
Participants must ensure that they have the right to participate in Black World Cinema Afrofuturism Film Competition(BWCAFC) with regard to third persons connected to the production of selected films/projects.
