Advice for Girls
“Advice for Girls” puts a spotlight on the collective experience of women in the ski industry. The film showcases advice from three generations of women in skiing. Each generation reminds women and girls of all ages that they are worthy of success, allowed to take up space, and are extremely valuable to the ski industry.
With an intersectional cast featuring all types of women – women of color, queer women, women with disabilities, and more – the crew hopes that everyone can find someone in the film to connect to.

Addy Jacobsend (athlete and producer) and I met a few years ago while competing on the Freeride World Qualifier circuit. We bonded over skiing, our similar values, and the things we wished were different in the ski industry. She came to me last November (2022) with a concept for a short film. The concept was a film about empowering women in the ski industry through advice from previous generations, for future generations. I knew this could be something much bigger than just a short film, so Advice for Girls, a feature length all-women ski film was born.
It was important for us to share women's stories in this film, so we knew that the people doing the storytelling behind the scenes had to be women too. As a creative in the outdoor industry, I have had to fight for space and representation behind the camera, just as much as female skiers have to fight for representation in front of it.
This film is a full-circle effort to uplight and provide opportunities for women in the industry. Additionally, it's not just a ski film for your stereotypical skier-girl.
As far as we know, we are the first major ski production to feature transgender women. On top of that, we aimed to show representation for all types of women, from athletes in their 50's, to athletes with children, to adaptive athletes, and women of color.
On top of an already lofty film concept, we set a goal to raise enough money to compensate those involved fairly and we have successfully paid all of those involved. Something that rarely happens, if at all, in the outdoor industry. We hope viewers can see themselves in one of our athletes, we hope female creatives are inspired by our 100% female production team, and we hope to provoke thought and change in a stubborn industry through the power of storytelling.
