Director Statement

The main focus of this film was to move past the intense feelings of anxiety I was struggling with at the time regarding my sense of self worth and desire for external validation. The process included breaking down three elements; birth, abandonment and identity. My intention was to pull from personal past situations and construct a metaphorical narrative that washes over the audience with a feeling of surrealism. I wanted to share some of my most haunting childhood memories and feelings of early adulthood, especially those that connected to my fathers absence. Most of the film is a dream, on the surface it feels slow paced and unclear, but the roots of every frame in the film contain elements and metaphors that map out feelings of personal loss that are relatable to an audience larger than just myself. The name Ace Bandage was given as the film's title due to the way the project healed me and hopefully can inspire others to heal themselves.
