Director Statement

Inspired by Eileen Chang's reflections on life's challenges and our search for connection, my film "Acceptance Letter" explores these themes against the backdrop of modern struggles faced by Asian youth in Canada. The story centers around Wendy, a character who embodies the fight against cultural expectations and the lure of escape through substances like nitrous oxide. This narrative is rooted in my observations as a documentarian, capturing the silent battles against familial pressures that many young people face today.

Acceptance Letter is a dark tale that delves into what it means to be human, offering a lens on identity, acceptance, and the courage to confront truth. Through Wendy's journey, I aim to inspire reflection and hope, urging viewers to find their own path through life's complexities. This film is a call to see beyond the surface, recognizing the deeper parts of our shared human experience.
