Director Statement

I write this story, Abang Adik, hoping that this issue can be noticed.

In my country (Malaysia), there is always a group of stateless and unidentified people. They are neither inseparable from nor belonging to this land. Those children have no idea for their future. But the government not only ignores it but also eats out of the palm of their hands. Aside from the issue of poverty, what comes next is the issue of identity. Without identity, people would like social death.

I want to write this story to raise the public's awareness about the marginalised not only in Malaysia but all over the world. In their daily life, they suffer from unfair treatment, reflecting the affair that must be valued. The two brothers suffer the same fate.

Under all the dissatisfaction, love is the only thing we have. Although society treats them like this, I still believe that the love in everyone's heart is the infinite power. On the contrary, love can also destroy everything. In Abang Adik, the ultimate appeal is the love hidden in the hearts of the two brothers. It is the love that gives them determination to accompany each other till the end of the world.
