I have been interested in the concept of the 'double burden' of women since studying MA Gender and International Development. It is a concept which is more known in the academic circles, but not prevalent or discussed much in popular culture. Thus, I aimed to bring it to the forefront through the medium of a documentary film, within the context of Zambian culture. I wanted the viewer to experience one day in the protagonist’s life through a poetic, yet observational lens. While filming this, I was especially touched and humbled by her dedication and resilience in shouldering her responsibilities and succeeding on a daily basis.
