Director Biography - Miriam Ann Gennari

Miriam Gennari was born on a naval base in Naples, Italy. Her parents divorced at a young age—her mother, who could not read or write, raised her. Miriam started a family before she could finish college. However, she aspired to get her degree, spending years in remedial college classes trying to get through the math requirement. Miriam found success in marketing long-term care communities and volunteering, but her priority remained to raise her three daughters. It was through her volunteer work on environmental issues she was introduced to media and film. For eleven years, Miriam developed and delivered a weekly segment on a local news show in Arlington, VA. Miriam later turned the program “SustainableScoop” into an educational nonprofit organization to teach civic engagement through interviews and public service announcements. She began filming her first documentary in 2016 and completed the project in 2020. Miriam's film impacted local and national discussions on plastic. The movie “StyrofoamMom” screened at universities around the country and environmental fairs and events, including the Smithsonian Earth Optimism Summit, where a live broadcast presented "StyrofoamMom" through a local independent media outlet. In 2019 Miriam returned to her studies determined to complete her degree at Los Angeles Film School. She will graduate in March 2022.
She loves making films that matter and working with the young and not-so-young.
Her most recent project, "A Wall," reflects her desire to inspire audiences to tap into their creativity and passion. Upon graduation, Miriam hopes to pursue a career in producing documentary and narrative storytelling.
