1. Eligibility
•Open to African filmmakers and those telling African stories.
•Accepting short films, documentaries, and docudramas.
•Submissions must engage with at least one of AVOCFF’s core themes:
-Disability inclusion
-Public health education
-Children’s rights
-Access to education, mobility, or dignity
-intersections of the above themes with Climate action
2. Film Length
•Mobile Phone Films:
Up to 15 minutes.
•Short Films:
Up to 20 minutes.
•Documentaries:
Up to 45 minutes.
•Docudramas (Fiction Feature):
Up to 120 minutes.
3. Language & Accessibility
•Films must be in English or include accurate English subtitles.
Films addressing accessibility topics must reflect respectful, informed representation.
Captions are strongly encouraged for all submissions.
4. Production Date
•Films must have been completed between January 2024 and September 2025.
•Works-in-progress are not eligible.
5. Screening Rights
•You must own the rights to all materials used (video, music, images).
•By submitting, you grant AVOCFF the right to screen the film during the festival and use excerpts for promotional purposes.
6. Submission Format
Film format: HD (1080p), MP4, 2GB max file size.
7. Fees
•Submission is free.
8. Selection Process
•Films will be reviewed by the AVOCFF 2025 programming team and Jury.
•Selection is based on relevance, storytelling, technical quality, and alignment with the festival theme.
•Films must be free of profanity, sexual nudity, and any material deemed inappropriate for general viewing. All content should be suitable for audiences of all ages, including children
9. Notification
•Filmmakers will be notified of selection by October 1, 2025.
•Selected filmmakers may be invited to participate in panels, Q&As, or town-hall screenings.
10. Accessibility Note
•Films that make deliberate efforts to be accessible (e.g. captions, sign language, audio description) will be prioritised.
