A Raunchy Children's Story
Logline: A father tells his 13-year-old son how he met his mother at a bar and goes into way too much detail.
In this eight-page short, Kevin Davies, late 30s, a lovable stoner dad, asks his thirteen-year-old son, Cameron, to sit down so he can have "The Talk" with him before a girl he likes arrives for a scooter date. Cameron doesn't want to have this conversation but will tolerate his dad's until his date arrives.
Kevin recounts for Cameron the story of how he met Cameron's mother, Melinda, a free-spirited woman in her own right. Kevin spares no details, especially explicit warnings about how women will try to curl a guy's toes.

L. E. Coleman is a screenwriter from Indianapolis, Indiana, who has placed in over thirty competitions including placements in the Nicholl, the Final Draft Big Break Contest and the Austin Film Festival. He loves writing sci-fi scripts and character-driven dramas and comedies that shine a spotlight on the human condition and many of the social ills that plague our society. He was a Roadmap Writers Diversity Initiative Recipient in 2018, and was selected as one of the Top 25 Screenwriters to Watch in 2021 by the International Screenwriters Association.
Before beginning a screenwriting career, I held various positions with the Indiana Family and Social Service Administration, The Indiana Department of Mental Health and Addictions, and the Indiana Department of Workforce Development. From my experiences working with diverse populations attempting to overcome tremendous barriers, I co-founded Crowner-Coleman Publishing, a small press dedicated to writing self-help material dealing with relationships, child custody, and co-dependency. Nonfiction writing led me to write fictional stories with purpose, leading me into the world of screenwriting.
My background allows me to write from a panoramic view about the many social ills I see in society. Thus, many of my scripts deal with sensitive topics such as race relations, the judicial system, and sexual abuse. However, everything is not doom and gloom, and, as one good book says, “A cheerful heart doeth good like a medicine.” No writer is one-dimensional, and I love writing stories that generate laughter, and the more insane, the better. I sometimes take a gut-wrenching drama and mix it with a bit of comedy. Sometimes it’s better to laugh than cry or cry and laugh simultaneously.
