A Portrait in Water

Inspired by Joris Ivens' "Rain," "A Portrait in Water," a short, silent film, explores the visual qualities of a river in Virginia. The surface of the river becomes a second lens for the underwater camera, reflecting and rippling, becoming a mirror and then a window. By documenting the changes in the water's clarity from the river's source to points downstream, the film lets us get to know changes in the environment from underneath the water.
