Director Biography - Riya Hayaran

Riya Hayaran is a filmmaker who recently completed her
Master of Design in Film and Video Communication from
the National Institute of Design Ahmedabad in 2023. She
completed her Bachelor's Degree in Fashion and Apparel
Design from the National Institute of Fashion Technology
in Gandhinagar in 2017.
Born and brought up in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh she uses
filmmaking as a lens to explore the intricacies of the
world. Her stories touch on diverse topics like education,
nature, music, and mental health, connecting seemingly
different realms.
With 5+ years of experience working across disciplines, she is a curious creator, diving into the everyday mix of colour, light, and human interactions. Her creative journey is rooted in a genuine fascination of the human psyche, pushing her to discover new perspectives with
each of her projects.

Director Statement

Riya's graduation film, titled 'For Those Who Remain,' a documentary that delved into the topic of organ donation, involving thorough research and interviews with 30 donor families from diverse backgrounds. The project received sponsorship from prestigious institutions including IIM-A, CIMS Hospital Ahmedabad, the State Organ and Tissue Transplant
Organisation (SOTTO) Gujarat, and the Ford Foundation Grant NID. Following the success of 'For Those Who Remain,' Riya conceived 'A Piece of Me' as a natural continuation of her exploration into this vital subject matter.
