Director Statement

Over the past two years I have been trying move out for the first time and am in the mindset of needing to leave and explore the world for myself. At this point in time I find myself questioning whether the house I grew up in, the house I've always felt most safe in, is really the best place for me. I wanted to explore that idea in this film. Using an obscure story object - our object the sky - we examine both Sam's and Lucy's relationship with their home, Sam having lived there all his life and Lucy being dropped into an environment she knows very little about as a result of another kind of life-changing event. Another element is the effect of crises on our quiet passions (whether they be horticulture or radio waves).
This film observes how different people's reactions to what is going on in the world around them can divide them in unexpected ways and be the deciding factor as to whether you stay or leave your home.

I've been visiting Achill Island since I was small. It's always been a place that I've known to have a truly unique landscape and was always going to be somewhere that I filmed in the future. The vastness of the island lent itself to an otherworldly and remote feel that we needed for this story. We filmed on the island for the duration of our three week shoot with a small crew of friends and family which allowed us to capture the landscape in a way that reflected Lucy's exploration.
