ANDREA RAMOLO is an award-winning filmmaker and music video director, a long-time touring and recording artist, actor, dancer, songwriter, and educator. She was the writer, creator, narrator, composer, and producer of the documentary film THE SOUTH which won the 45th Canadian Ethnic Media Award for BEST DOCUMENTARY in 2023. She also did some additional directing, editing, and subtitles as well as the trailer for that feature film. The film had its world premiere at Toronto’s ICFF Lavazza Inclucity Film Festival, screened at Toronto’s famous Hot Docs/Ted Roger’s Cinema, and is continuing to be accepted into a variety of film festivals world wide. The film recently signed a deal with 8 e Mezzo in Italy for distribution on VOD platforms, Fast Channels, and broadcasts in Italian-speaking territories in Europe and is currently streaming on PRIME VIDEO in Italy.
Andrea has also produced and directed a handful of music videos, both for her own music and for colleagues. She won the Canadian Independent Music Video Award in 2022 for her producing and co-directing work on Free (ft. Kinnie Starr). Her first dramatic short which she wrote, produced, and directed entitled BABY won awards of excellence, won the New York Independent Cinema Awards for Best Female Director, won awards for Best Debut Short Film, Best Indie Short, Best Women’s Short, and 2x Best Actress Awards, and was an official selection at the Triloka International Filmfare Awards, the Best Shorts Competition, LIFF-Sweden, Echoes Film Festival, and Paradise Film Festival. Andrea is currently writing a comedic tv series called Toni’s Place and working on a documentary on the homeless crisis called A World So Cold. A NIGHT UNDER THE STARS IN A PARKING LOT is her newest short, written, directed, and produced by her and explores the human need for connection and love.
I'm interested in human kindness and trauma. I'm fascinated with how one individual's memory or experience in the same lived moment as another individual can be so dramatically different. This film explores longing. It explores violence and fragility. It explores bullying and ramifications of feeling unseen and existing on the peripheries. But most of all, it asks the question "what would this world look like if we all truly saw one another... if not one of us was an island?" My protagonist Damien's life is exponentially altered by a younger Eva's inability to see him and the disturbed and saddened man that emerges confronts her 20 years later after their high school ball "A Night Under the Stars" didn't quite go his way.
