I am rising junior student at The College of New Jersey, and I am an Interdisciplinary Business major with a minor in Communication Studies (specializing in Digital Filmmaking). At my college, I am a member of the Student Film Union and comedy producer for our TV club, Lions Television. I have been studying and practicing filmmaking since my freshman year of high school. Creating films has always been what I enjoy the most and is what drives me above all things.
I had one goal in making this short film, and that was simply to do it. I am not someone who has expensive equipment, nor a cast and crew, but I chose not to let that stop me. My original intent was to complete a 40-minute feature film on my own, and I wanted to prove to myself that I was capable of doing so. After making "A Neil Scuzzese Film," I honestly believe I can. As can anyone. I gave myself a week to throw together a feature film, and I soon realized this was never going to happen, at least not to the standard that I held. I only managed to get about 20 minutes of footage, and only about half of that I felt was usable. With that footage, plus some post-production adjustments, I think I made a movie.
Whether there is something to be taken away from watching this film or not is completely up to the viewer. To me, it's simply about that desire to do something, no matter what holds you back. Whether success comes right away, or tomorrow, or the day after doesn't matter. It only takes you to make it happen. The beauty of it is, having made this film, I know can do much better, and that's exactly what I'm going to do. The only thing that can hold me back is myself.
