Beginning as an assistant director for the 1997 feature film KITCHEN, Linq went on to be one of the few students to receive double major degrees within New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, graduating Magna Cum Laude in its dramatic writing and drama programs.
After graduation, Linq moved to Beijing to direct commercials, music videos, and short films. His works have been accepted into numerous festivals such as the Hong Kong IFVA Film Festival, the Beverly Hills Film Festival, and the Filmaka Film Competition, the Blue Planet Science Fiction Awards, etc.
Linq is also a musician, composing original film scores and producing popular music. He has composed original soundtracks to major releases such as FLOATING CITY (starring Aaron Kwok and Charlie Yeung) and A WEST LAKE MOMENT (starring Zhou Xun and Chen Kun).
Commercial and music video clients include: Michael Kors, Hershey’s, Senheiser, Mandarin Oriental, L’Officiel, etc.
His feature film as a writer-director, ANA, a science fiction thriller, has won a final award at the Fifth China International Science Fiction Convention, and will go into production in 2019.
Linq is represented by the United Talent Agency (UTA).
When asked where he would set his seminal cyberpunk novel NEUROMANCER if it were written today, William Gibson replied: “China.”
Having divided my life equally between Hong Kong, New York, and currently in Beijing, I must say, Gibson has hit the nail on the head. During the past thirteen years I’ve spent in mainland China, the development that I have witnessed is truly staggering, going from a developing city to the full-fledged cyberpunk capital it is today.
The interesting part about a rapidly developing city is the juxtaposition of new and old— hundred-story high-rises looming across a row of tenements, helplessly awaiting the fate of sudden demolition; neon signs blasting competing colored lights on a steamy street filled with food vendors; fruit and vegetables carts unloaded directly from farmlands, sold by old ladies who only accept payment by QR code …
In creating A.N.N.I., what I’m interested in is situating a love story in a near-future, “organic cyberpunk” version of Beijing, with the story itself investigating the paradoxical nature of technology— how it can be both life-affirming and anti-human at the same time. Aided by my talented actors and crew, I hope that A.N.N.I. will give you a glimpse of the new and exciting possibilities coming from China.
Originally conceived as a concept short for a web series, A.N.N.I. is a poetic investigation of the question: “What would happen if every sentence you spoke, every decision you made, were perfect?"
