Experiencing Interruptions?

ANGER

ANGER is a 12 part audio / visual experience which follows the adventures of Queen Elizabeth II into a post-apocalyptic Covid-riddled world. I wrote and produced this during the global lockdown of 2020, in collaboration with creatives in the UK and Germany, also stuck at home on their laptops.

This medieval / sci-fi nightmare is a tongue-in-cheek reflection of the post-truth age we are living through. Covid-19, Brexit, the British class system, monarchy, mental health, free will and suicide are dramatised in this work.

As the “Leavers“ rush to escape their human bodies by transforming into mech-organic creatures, the “Remainers“ scramble to find some way to survive without them. Armies of Key Workers toil on through the toxic haze and disease, as the elites reveal their new immune bodies to the applause of the global media. Elizabeth, lost and unrecognisable in this new world, would catalyse a transformation quite unlike the others - a being which would change everything.

Director Biography - Alexander Augustus

Alexander Augustus came to directing through an unconventional route. He studied Anthropology and Art History at the Sainsbury’s Centre of Visual Arts, before training as an artist in America and then at Central St Martins in London. As a conceptual artist his work engages with the things he cares about. His solo exhibition at Somerset House (London) dealt with the alienation and despair of young unemployment and led to the banning of unpaid internships there, and was subsequently archived in the National Portrait Gallery. His architectural steel birds in IAP (Incheon) and ZK/U (Berlin) are permanent public sculptures commenting on the politics of borders. His installation work streamed into Tate Modern analysed the interaction between shamanism and christianity in South Korea.

His recent works in Korea and the UK have been science-fiction inspired audio adventure podcasts - as responses to global crises such as climate change and the covid-19 pandemic.

Having worked in academia as an Art History and Anthropology lecturer, and in industry as a Game Artist for Game design and Advertising firms, He is equipped with unique skills and perspectives.

Director Statement

Stories are the currency of power. I have collaborated with shamans, architects, engineers, bank robbers, doctors, musicians, politicians, dancers, miners, actors, fishermen, urban planners, developers and others to build metaphorical worlds which critique our own. I create operatic experiences which combine the traditional and digital; Film and audio experiences, bronze-casting, textiles, metalwork and theatre, alongside CAD, CNC, 3D modelling and VR.
