A Life in Boxes

As a son uncovers the multiple lives of a father he never knew, his father's life choices reveal a complex truth that echoes throughout a grieving family; peeling back the layers of who Darryl Tarrance truly was.

In the summer of 2021, young filmmaker Tayton T. Troidl sets out on a journey of family discovery after his father's untimely passing earlier that year.

Being absent for most of Tayton’s life, now as a young adult, Tayton sets out to discover who his father was, after his death.

With the insight from neighbors and newly found family, A Life in Boxes peels back the layers of a complex father figure who’s effects echo throughout this family, there friends, and the next generation to come.

Director Biography - Tayton Te'Andre Troidl

Tayton T. Troidl is an independent filmmaker from Buffalo, NY. Growing up in the country, Tayton found little for him in his small town wanting to venture off into the world and make something out of his name and family.

Tayton discovered his love for storytelling through films and video games which lead him to experiment with filmmaking post high school. After being accepting to the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2018, Tayton further refined his skills and abilities to best suit this style of storytelling.

This has culminated in his latest project titled "A Life in Boxes" - a documentary that was recognized with the inaugural Best Student Documentary - East Coast award from the Directors Guild of America in December of 2022. His film has also screening inside of the esteemed George Eastman Museum after receiving theRIT Honors Show faculty award.

Today, Tayton is focusing on "A Life in Boxes" film festival submissions and building a network with fellow filmmakers to create touching projects that shed light on the human experience.
