Director Biography - Edgar Cervantes Jr

I am Edgar Cervantes Jr. a filmmaker, director, cinematographer, and editor based in the Philippines. I have been passionate in creating films ever since I was in elementary. I worked in the videography industry, particularly in wedddings and events industry, and that is where I learned to use a camera and direct. Of course it was not enough, so I enrolled in workshops, did some job shadowing, until I can create a film of my vision preferences.

This film was dedicated to what was known in Silang, Cavite before, the coffee industry, and this film is also dedicated to the rising industry of cacao. I chose to have a handheld look and shots since it was more of a run and gun during that time, and things where happening fast, also because I wanted to have a bit of movement rather than having it still.

I chose to have the colors lean to more orange while keeping the skintones natural as it is. As choosing the color orange as a motivation helps to have a sense of calmness and nostalgia in it.

I chose to have it lit in a high key, low contrast since it is not much of a drama but to make the viewers see the details of what is in the frame as well.

The direction of the film was from to show how processing the beans to finish, and a bit of history of the farm, but I realized that it would be more interesting if I show what happened to the coffee industry and how one farmer learned the mistakes of the past by applying it to her cacao farm
