Director Statement

Dar es Salaam is the largest city in Tanzania and one of the fastest growing cities in the world. It’s filled with all the trappings of a modern metropolis; but, just a few years ago, this city used to be home to a number of flourishing crystal clear lakes.

The three most famous ones were Lake Tandale, Lake Magomeni, and Lake Mwananyamala, which were important habitats for diverse plants and animals.

However, today, there remains barely a semblance of their existence on land and practically none in local textbooks and lessons. This documentary tells the story of Lake Mwananyamala and how it disappeared over time.
