A Journey to a Chip is an experimental film that shows us the effects of Recreational Drugs and how it can affect a person and his daily life. This film takes a comedic approach towards the subject of drug usage as this topic has always been shot in a dark light and the creators of the film Rohit and Shreya wanted to move away from this as it has been done extensively by various creators. The first person perspective of the film allows people to be more immersed in the film and shows how drugs can affect you and the special cravings that you sometimes get when you take drugs. With the use of different camera angles, creative acting and some video effects this film throws away the stigma of recreational drug use and shows the other side of it which can be fun and can help people relax when taken in small quantities.

Director Biography - Rohit Byju, Shreya Nair

Rohit Byju spent most of his life in UAE and has helped him see the world in a different way. UAE has shipped the way he thinks about a lot of things, may it be about Design, Film and Culture. Coming from a country that embraces different cultures has made him more prone to things that make him unique. He uses this uniqueness in his films as well, he tries to incorporate people from different cultures in his film sand talks about various social issues within his films. Graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Multimedia he approaches films in a very specific way and makes sure that every scene has a story to tell even without the characters in it. His favorite genre however is to use comedy to tell a good and entertaining story, ads he believes that comedy is one of the hardest genres to conquer and once he has done that the rest will be a cake walk. He is now working on his Masters in Moving Image from The University of Sydney and expects to leave a mark on the Australian film Industry.

Director Statement

Rohit Byju was born in India on 25th November 1996, till the age of 7 he spent his life going from different state in India. In 2005 he would move to Dubai, UAE where he would spend the rest of his life. Starting a new life somewhere can always be hard but for rohit who was only a kid it would prove to be quite easy. He was there from the time Dubai was just another city on the map to where it is considered to be one of the global hubs; he knows the city like the back of his palm and wishes to spend the rest of his life there. He graduated from The American University of Sharjah with a Bachelors of Science in Multimedia in December 2019. His field of experience ranges from but not limited to animation, film, graphic design, interactive design and many more. However, his passion was in film therefore he decided to pursue that passion by joining a Masters Program in Moving Images from The University of Sydney.
His stylistic approach leans towards comedy and they tend to have a social message around them. His movies tend to have a combination of different elements for instance in his script “Project Obnoxion” he combined Comedy and Sci-Fi to create a world where the Nazi’s won world war and have found a way to conquer different worlds. His films discuss different social such as drug abuse, addictions and mental health as these were one of the major concerns for many people during the Lockdown in 2020. Creating a concept for a story can always be hard and that is the same for Rohit, but he usually gets inspirations from comics and story books. Furthermore, coming from a country such as UAE has allowed him to see the world in a different way which allows him to have a unique take on life.
