Director Statement

The film represents the implicit and subtle way to express affection for the Taiwanese. Interpreting the sudden death, director Peng Tzu-Hui quotes from the aesthetic of “Wabi-Sabi”, which is influenced from Zen: life is impermanent, incomplete, and imperfect. Based on this perspective, we shot on Super 16mm films in order to create the rough and rustic images. The camera is set in fixed positions, allowing the audience to look at the characters and scenes for a period of time, watching the changing and passing of life, and to look at the beauty of imperfection from a non-judgemental point of view.
