Director Statement

I wrote this film in July of 2016, after watching a viral video of the shooting of Philando Castille. My heart broke for a stranger in a way I had not felt before. Riddled with grief, frustration, and confusion I began searching for answers on how to respect or feel safe around the police as a black woman. I stayed up all night crying and praying, and then found the desire to write. I don't have an answer on how to comfort those who have lost their sons and daughters in this way. But my hope is that in looking at the subject in a new light, our nation can begin to ask an unpack difficult questions that lead to healing.
