AFTER THE STORM

This video clip was recorded in the south of La Guajira, a very particular region of the Colombian Caribbean. Being located next to the Perijá mountain range, on the border between Colombia and Venezuela.
This audiovisual piece tells the story of Juan, a boy from the town, who lives in a rural area and who must face a difficult day. Although the sun is outside, the storm is inside, but Juan finds strength in the company of his friend María, who will allow him to enjoy the sun.

Director Biography - JULIANA RIOS

Juliana Ríos Martínez:
Master in Visual Arts with Plastic Emphasis from the Pontifical Javeriana University of Bogotá. Animation Specialist from the National University of Colombia. In 2012, upon finishing his professional career, he attended the intensive sculpture and painting program at the New York Academy of Art in the United States and in 2017 he took the Experimental Printmaking course with Master Swietlan N. Kraczyna in Braga, Italy.
He has participated in group exhibitions in Colombia, Canada, England, Spain, Italy, France, the United States, the Netherlands, Cuba, Mexico and Switzerland. His work has received several awards. This year it is part of the Bregaglia Biennale in Switzerland. In 2019 she was selected as a fellow of Arts in Residence, Esbeek (Netherlands). In 2018 it was part of the Artecámara selection, in Artbo. In 2015, she was the winner of the Artistic Residency of the Quebec Council of Arts and Letters and the Ministry of Culture, having the opportunity to create at the Atelier Circulaire in Montreal, Canada. In 2016, she was chosen as a scholarship recipient of the Colombia-United States Artistic Residency Sitka Fine Arts Camp (Alaska), which is awarded by the Colombian Ministry of Culture. In 2014 he received Honorable Mention in the Faber Castell Drawing Contest, organized by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Bogotá.
Currently, his work is part of public collections in museums such as the Maqui (Museo de Arte del Quindío) and the Museo del Tolima. Alternate to her work as a creative artist, she has collaborated with pedagogical and collective creation processes since 2011 in spaces such as the Taller del maestro Oscar Cerón, Río Laboratorio and the Bogotá Library Network. Lives and works between Villanueva (La Guajira and Bogotá). Her first animated short film “Sin Alas” was presented at the Wilfredo Lam Center in Havana, Cuba, it was part of the Official Selection of the TRICKY WOMEN/TRICKY REALITIES 2024 Festival in Austria, at the 31's International Festival of Animated film Stuttgart (ITFS) , at the 13th CHILEMONOS International Animation Festival, 5 Anima latina Festival in Argentina, AniMate- Australia Animation Film Festival, ABQ Indie Film Festival, 25 Wiesbaden International Animation Festival, and at the BAM! Festival. Participant in the Cinemateca Rodante Animation Short Film Project Laboratory of 2023. Winners as Best National Short Film Festival Caribetoons 2024.
