A Cowboy Fairy Tale
Have you ever yelled at your dog over something small, then seen that sad, disappointed look on her face—and felt awful about it? That urge to make it right, to show her you didn’t mean it?
Now imagine two aging cowboys carrying that same feeling, but for a lifetime of working with cattle. Wanting to make amends, they decide to adopt a bull and welcome him into their family.
This simple, heartfelt film tells that story, set to the beautiful folk song Happy Adoption Day, which songwriter John McCutcheon generously allowed us to use. Through their journey with the bull, the cowboys reflect on their past and find redemption in their new bond. We hope the audience feels something of that too—the idea that it’s never too late to make things right.
Made by a 92-year-old filmmaker who, in his own way, is making peace with his past.
