A Caldeirada: Patrimônio de Itapissuma

Gastronomic symbol of the city of Itapissuma, 35 km from Recife, the dish known as caldeirada was highlighted in the 1980s. In a very unusual way, Maria Irene da Silva, better known as Dona Irene, who owned a small shop located in the downtown, had the idea of joining crustaceans in a large cauldron, which gave rise to the name of the menu.
According to their reports, it was enough to add crab, lobster, sururu, stingray, shrimp, seafood, oyster, octopus to the pan. Then he added coconut milk and other condiments that added flavor and originality to the dish. After cooking, with the broth he made a mush and served it with white rice. This was how the ´´Caldeira da Irene´´ initially appeared, which was soon passed on its revenue to other traders in the Itapissuma community, attracting visitors from the country of the world.
