Royce Daniel Lewis is a 16 year old American filmmaker born in Pomona, California on August 20, 2006. From a young age, Royce has had a big interest in filmmaking and cinema, uploading his first public family film when he was just 8 years old. In 2015-2018, he made 11 family films in total before taking a break to focus on middle school. In 2022, now relocated from Denver, Colorado to Atlanta, Georgia, Royce returned to his passion of cinema, studying and learning as much as he could before creating his most recent official short film, "A Boy in Quarantine". Royce's goal is to inspire others with his work and to represent black film in a new, positive way.
This film is based on an unreleased short film my brother Weston and I made of the same name. It was a very simple film about a kid doing things around the house in quarantine. But there was an unintentional eeriness to it that I really wanted to explore, especially after watching films like “American Psycho” and “The Batman”. Those films really helped me find how I wanted the main character Marcus to be portrayed and how I wanted the tone of the film to be. Another important thing to me was to make the film feel like it wasn’t made by a high schooler which I think we did a good job doing based on responses. I also really wanted to show people that anyone could make a film no matter how simple the concept is and that they are able to achieve the vision they want to achieve!
