Director Biography - Caroline Johnson

Caroline Johnson is a filmmaker and writer based in Los Angeles, California. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Film and Video at California Institute of the Arts, where she also serves as the Critical Reader (teaching assistant) of the CalArts’ Film History and Film Today courses. Last fall, she delivered a lecture on the films of Renée Clair and has written extensively on spiritual iconography in early European cinema. Her critical writing focuses on the overlap in performance between Method Acting and autobiographical filmmaking, and her thesis film aims to bring these theoretical ideas to the screen in a fictional documentary. Caroline is also passionate about politics and is a Host and content creator at The Young Turks.

A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD is a thrilling short film that grapples with the effects of politics on our everyday relationships: Fracturing communities, rising social anxieties, decaying trust in our neighbors... In a world of increasing isolation, our social relations are fraying at lightning speed and politics is driving us away even from those closest to us. A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD is a psychological horror full of twists and turns that subverts our expectations at every beat. Are we right to suspect an enemy around every corner? A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD asks us if we can ever, in this day and age, really trust our neighbors.
