BIOGRAPHY
S’thembiso Mathenjwa, born in Umlazi Durban, grew up eMahlongwa South Coast of Natal, is a film/television drama Director currently living and working in Johannesburg.
S’thembiso graduated from Technikon Natal, 2000 with a diploma in film and video technology. He then moved to Johannesburg to join Endemol’s daily drama, Isidingo as a Script Continuity/Director’s Assistant in 2002
In the winter of 2006, he made his directing debut, as one of the four directors, under some of South Africa’s most talented directors mentorship.
After seven years directing with Endemol’s Isidingo, numerous Safta nominations and three awards, he moved on to Mzansi Magic’s Isibaya. During this time with Bomb he was again part of a Safta winning directing team for 2018 and 2019 respectively.
S’thembiso’s experience also includes a 13 part comedy series, Its for life produced for Mzansi Magic, in 2011.
In 2010 he participated as one of the content directors at the Fifa FANFEST project for the SABC, 2010 World Cup.
This exposure to a wide palette of South African audience brings about a huge desire for S’thembiso to use his experience to explore the different facets of our African ambition.
9MeMeZA is more than a short film, but a movement of young Township filmmakers from Soweto who came together to tell a story that is common within the communities we live in. It is set in the heart of Soweto, speaking the minds and voices of the people who are carving their new and old existences.
