The dog meat professionals: South Korea
This is the most in-depth and balanced investigative documentary into the dog meat trade in South Korea to date. We expose the current conditions in dog farms across the country, speak to a parliamentary researcher employed by the government who says the Korean government is inactive on this issue and is not willing to legalise or ban the dog meat trade, vets, farm inspectors, dog merchants, dog meat restaurant owners, dog farmers, and activists. Consequently, we’ve documented the battle between animal activists and the dog meat association members, which culminates in aggressive and sometimes violent exchanges. For activists, this journey is about saving the dogs. For dog farmers and merchants, this journey is about maintaining their livelihood. Both parties believe mistruths about the dog meat industry which are perpetuated by international animal activists. In the meantime, dogs continue to get raised, killed, and overtly eaten daily in the thousands of dog meat restaurants across the country. Come on a journey into the worlds of The Dog Meat Professionals. [By: James Hyams and Taehoon Lee].
This documentary is in both Korean and English (around 50/50). Korean interviews are subtitled in English.
