Fun Bodies is an attempt to re-evaluate the timeworn ‘hipster’ on his own terms, toying with irony and emotional obscurity as a means of detachment. This particular friend group shares an addiction to the lo-fi Burger Records label. Instead of choosing to solely glorify or condemn this identity, it was most important to portray the characters’ hegemony of irony with a sense of moral ambiguity. Though simulating formal sincerity and indie naturalism as often as we could, the film serves as its own ironic gesture against the tired tradition of hip detachment. The ultimate goal is that this disruption of sincerity forces the spectator to come to terms with the way they engage hip sensibilities.
