FINDING CLIVE is a romantic comedy with songs, as seen through the eyes of Mari, who is lost in her own fantastical world. When she hears that her best friend Sanjay is getting married, she decides she wants to find a boyfriend called Clive. Mari’s pin-up is a hot catalogue-model she calls Clive and she wants her new boyfriend to be exactly like him, even down to his name. Sanjay sets Mari up on a dating website with a profile, Catalogue model required - must be called Clive.

Director Biography

Deva is an award-winning writer-director, whose prizes include: Silver Plaque at Chicago International Film Festival-2003 and joint runner-up BBC New Filmmakers award 2004 for FISHY; Best Trailer Award at LA Underground Film Forum 2017, Platinum Award for Best Trailer at Mindfield Film Festival 2017 Los Angeles, Best Trailer Award at Creation International Film Festival 2017 for FINDING CLIVE Teaser Trailer.

THE GRAB, a short film that was directed, co-written with Mandy Lee and co-lensed with Anne-Marie Lean Vercoe, premiered at Edinburgh International Film Festival 2019 and was awarded Best Concept Film at Catfish Short! Short Film Festival 2020.
SALMA’S WALKABOUT short film Deva also co-written with Mandy Lee, was shortlisted for the Underwire Short Screenplay Competition 2013.
Deva was mentored by William McGregor, a multi-award winning writer director, on the Directors UK Inspire scheme 2019/20 and her meetings with him inspired her to go into production with her first feature film, BLUE.

Deva is a member of the BFI NETWORK X BAFTA Crew cohorts for 2019/20 and 2020/21, where she met Adam Gregory Smith, producer and Nigel Bunyan, editor, who are both in the core team of BLUE and have helped make this no-budget feature film viable.

BLUE, a supernatural drama, written, directed and mostly lensed by Deva - filmed during lockdown in Frome, London and Mexico City. Rosie Allerhand and her daughter Orla McAlister, who are Deva’s neighbours in Frome played leading roles alongside the BAFTA award winning actress Gemma Jones (Rocketman, Bridget Jones Diary, Marvellous) and Shirley Henderson (Trainspotting, Bridget Jones Diary, Happy Valley) who won an Olivier award in 2018 for best actress in a musical performs songs throughout on the soundtrack.

Deva’s feature film, FINDING CLIVE - a romantic comedy with songs, starring Shirley Henderson and Roger Allam, produced by Katie O’Mahoney and exec produced by Melissa Parmenter for Revolution Films is being financed by Shepperton Media PLC with a proposed shoot for 2022.

The FINDING CLIVE screenplay written by Deva, was selected as a quarterfinalist for the Academy Nicholl Fellowship 2013, second rounder at Austin Film Festival 2013 and 2012. Longlisted for the Red Planet Prize 2012.

Deva is attached to direct SNOWBIRDS, a romantic comedy set on a retiree park in the Arizona desert, written by Sophie Dix and produced by Dog Eat Dog Films.

Originally trained as an actress at Guildhall School of Music and Drama with a BP Scholarship, Deva has a natural affinity for working with actors. In 2017, she was awarded a top first for an MA in feature filmmaking at Bath Spa University and many years prior to this she spent a summer studying filmmaking at NYU, on a William and Eva Fox Fellowship. Deva is still greatly influenced by NYU Professor Karl Bardosh’s hands-on approach to filmmaking.

Director Statement

I made the Finding Clive Teaser Trailer while I was at Bath Spa University as part of an MA in Feature Filmmaking and this short film helped me secure a first class degree.

I am passionate about making films and to make Finding Clive as my second feature film will be a dream come true.
