Director Statement

I BAKED HIM A CAKE is an atmospheric horror short which subverts the typical paradigm of women's representation as prey in horror films.

The film is adapted from writer/producer Samantha Kolesnik's short story of the same title, which was published in the Spring 2016 issue of horror lit mag, Hypnos Magazine.

It was tremendous fun to work on a horror short which leaves a lot to the imagination, and which relies so strongly on ambiance. It was also a pleasure to work with such a talented diverse crew. Women are so often under-represented behind-the-scenes in horror films, so to be able to work on a film which had women in the roles of producer, director, writer, art director, and SFX, plus lead talent, was exhilarating.

Lastly, the score of this film is a character in and of itself. Ross Childress, former lead guitarist of Collective Soul, composed the music for I BAKED HIM A CAKE, and it lends to the emotional process in a way only music can.
