Scent of Resin

“Scent of Resin” - Synopsis
Based on the novel by Fabrizio Arietti, emotions and historic events unravel between the 19th and 20th century in “Scent of Resin”. In 1896, a newlywed French couple decides to immigrate to Tuscany with an employment opportunity in hand. The story begins when the couple is transiting the Moncenisio Pass by carriage – Moncenisio being the first alpine community across the border – and their first child is born prematurely. From that moment on, the connection between this place and future generations propagates through a series of extraordinary coincidences. The main historic period in the film is the Second World War, from the Italian Armistice Day (8 September 1943) to the dawn of the Partisan Resistance. The main character is Piero, an Italian soldier stationed on the French border. Crucial to the story, is his love for his distant fiancée and his extraordinary friendship with his barrack mate. Events intertwine over time until the moment when, in 1996, two enthusiastic young people discover the military tags of two soldiers in an abandoned ruin. Their curiosity and passion will push the young couple to conduct complicated and diligent research starting with the names engraved in the tags. In a progressive crescendo of emotions, they will discover the incredible circumstances linked to the lives of the two soldiers. Through numerous journeys in search of the truth, and with moving plot twists, they will contradict certainties determined over the course of fifty years.
