Eat Your Heart

Eat Your Heart out is an absurd and joyous romp through the conflict of societal expectations and inner freedom.

Eat Your Heart, a short experimental film directed by Lara Buffard and Catharine Cary, produced by the Château de Monthelon and Instant(S) Female (2017)

« The life of an interior woman is the most overwhelming condition of the condition of women » -Simone De Beauvoir " The second sex "1949

Eat Your Heart looks at female domesticity and oppression in the house, the castle or the harem. The first collaboration of Lara Buffard and Catharine Cary, this video called Eat Your Heart romps through stereotypes and offers an exit from the boxes we put ourselves in. It offers women the energy to emancipate from outdated clichés and constraining societal rules that condition them.

Our simple wish is for women to recognize their fabulousness!

Through this poetico-barocco-surrealist project Instant(S) Female
we want to infuse a wind of rebellion, freedom and perspective to everyone (Men welcome!).

Eat Your Heart (15 min) was created during an invited artistic residency in the Chateau de Monthelon (FR) in 2017.

Director Statement

We created Instant(S) Female to address poetically and symbolically the roles of women in our society, and open up avenues for liberation and escape. Each of us succeeded in business before becoming artists, bringing a unique perspective to the deeply imbedded cultural expectations of women today. Like a blouse too tight to even get off.

The subject that captivates and amuses us is WOMEN. Yeah !!!! Women in all their splendor. But before you get worried that we are proposing a feminista lesbian bash, read on. We are feminist and one of us is bi, but the rest is just pure fun, with a good message.

As Jodorowsky wrote : “The alchemy of act transforms the darkness in light.”
