Director Biography - Thomas Wiewandt

With a background in both art and science, Thomas Wiewandt has focused on natural history filmmaking, publishing, ecotourism, and consulting. He owns Wild Horizons Productions and earned a PhD in ecology at Cornell. His films and cinematography for the BBC and National Geographic have been honored with an Emmy Nomination, four CINE Golden Eagles, and a Gold Apple Award. Tom’s 2012 production DESERT DREAMS (www.DesertDreams.Org) - screened in eight international film festivals, winning awards in three – has been adopted by national Public Television in America for fund-raising campaigns (2015-2017). DESERT DREAMS and his new relaxation video COSMIC FIRE (2016) are immersive productions without narration. Tom’s self-published book THE SOUTHWEST INSIDE OUT (2001, 2004, 2010, 2014) has captured five top publishing awards, and DESERT DREAMS is based on his book HIDDEN LIFE OF THE DESERT (Mountain Press Publ., 2010).
