Born in Sutton Coldfield and raised in Tamworth, Mark graduated with a BA (Hons) Degree in Graphic Design which he practiced before breaking into modelling and ultimately finding his true calling in life as an Actor and Director. After filming for 3 months at Pinewood Studios on 'Snow White and the Huntsman'. Mark has gone on to feature in a range of Independent and Hollywood Films, TV shows, Commercials and Music Videos. Mark has produced and directed his debut feature 'Crossing Over' starring British Actress Louise Jameson.
I found that most first time Independent films I've watched tend to be of the 'Horror' or ' Brit Crime flick/Gangsta' genres - it seems to be the preferred way of cutting your teeth in this industry. After growing up on a diet of classic British TV, I wanted to develop something that I was passionate about, which I felt people could relate to and connect with. Comedy was the obvious and only choice for me.
Initially I was inspired into action by a conversation I had on set with Vin Diesel, who advised me to write, direct and star in my own screenplay just as he had. This coupled with the admiration I held for Director Robert Rodriguez approach, of creatively working around your lack of budget and my own tongue in cheek views and experiences of being an actor in the industry, I set about making my debut feature, 'Crossing Over'. A film envisioned as a TV pilot to parent an ongoing TV series.
This film was not just about taking personal influences such as Spaced, Extra's, Episodes, Not Going Out, 'Toast of London'. 'Lock Stock...' (and many others) and blending the love I had for them into my own vision. The soundtrack was equally as important to me, and artists/bands I've loved my whole life help give this project its beating heart.
Tom Spencer wrote and performed title track ‘American Dream’ with Victoria Liedtke and Graeme Taylor which pays tribute to the British TV themes of old such as ‘Auf Wiedersehn Pet’ and ‘Minder’. Junior Thomas produced wonderful 2D animation which harks back to nostalgic memories of 80's cartoons and finishing off proceedings was the coup of casting Legendary British TV actress Louise Jameson (Doctor Who, Eastenders, Bergerac) to play sweet and sour agent Angela Winters.
This has undoubtably been a passion project and I’m proud see the love from all involved is clearly evident on screen. We turned the tiniest of budgets to our advantage and overcame obstacles galore throughout the production. The 'feel good’ vibe of people trying to achieve their dreams against the odds is endearing and testament to why we continue to create art every day we wake.
