ALEX KERAI (writer, director, producer, cinematographer, editor, composer) donned many hats for this production and has shepherded it to completion throughout a two and a half year production process. He served as the lead producer, through his company Backyard Productions, which is handling distribution, and collaborated with the Hobart & William Smith Phoenix Players to co-produce and finance the film. Lamppost Pictures served as the artistic consultant and worked closely with Kerai when he served as writer and director. Kerai began writing the script in the Fall of 2014 and was not completed until the Fall of 2016, at which the point the film was in production with Kerai directing and producing. On the film, Kerai also served as the cinematographer, a camera operator and lighting technician, the film editor, the sound mixer and editor, the visual effects director, and composed the original musical score. His production work and skills are immense and on display in First Light.
In addition to film, Kerai is an award-winning playwright and theatrical lighting designer, as well as a short story writer, academic essayist, journalist, composer, peer tutor, and varsity sailor. He has worked primarily in New York and Massachusetts doing a variety of commercial, professional, and student projects.
Currently, he serves as the co-President of the Phoenix Players in Geneva, New York, and as the Editor of the Herald newspaper.
