Mind Cage

A traditional Healer exploits the deep rooted stigma of mental health in rural Cambodia, with his harsh treatment methods. He is humiliated and locked up when a Psychiatrist from the city of Phnom Penh intervenes and proves him wrong. Having lost all respect, the Healer tracks down the Psychiatrist and stalks his family. Mysterious events happening in the house start to disintegrate the happy family. Things get even more complicated as the Psychiatrist’s wife is a strong believer of superstitions. Sanity of each character is challenged as the Healer’s cruel games pushes everyone in the family towards the edge.

Director Biography - Amit Dubey

Amit was born and raised in a small town in South of India. Growing up with Indian cinema, he was exposed to the World Cinema when he moved to the US for university. After working as a Software Engineer for several years in the US, he discovered his passion in filmmaking 6 years ago. His travels brought him to Cambodia, where he changed his career to a full-time filmmaker. After making several short films that were screened in various film festivals, he set out to make his first feature film Mind Cage in Cambodia. He did an year of research on the mental health situation of the country, in parallel to writing the screenplay. He was able to make "Mind Cage" with an entirely Cambodian cast, and the crew which was also Cambodian besides himself and the Cinematographer. Amit hopes to bring a new kind of story from Cambodia that is not about Khmer Rouge, but mirrors the present day changing face of a country that remains unexplored in global cinema.
