Director Biography - Mariano Sosa

Mariano Sosa is a film programmer, cultural entrepreneur and award winning film and TV writer and director from Argentina, with multimedia and creative projects in Europe and Latin America. He is also a journalist, writer and founder of Ciclos de Cine Cercano, an international cultural initiative for the education of audiences and the promotion of Latin American cinema in the region.

He is the programmer of the official competition of FECICH Film Festival in Chile and Director of Muestra Cine Europeo de Segovia in Spain from 2020.
Mariano works also as a correspondent from international cultural events in Europe and Latin America. In 2017 he was recognized by Multimedios Uno, Mendoza, as one of the personalities of the year in culture for his work in cinema. He was also recently selected to the Valparaiso Locarno Industry Academy International 2018 with his project Ciclos de Cine Cercano.

His first short film, ¨As Seen on TV¨, premiered at the Cartagena International Film Festival in Colombia, FICCI57 (cine en los barrios) and was the Winner of the Best Latin American Short Film Award at Lúdico, Latin American Short Film Festival in Costa Rica, 2017. The project was also selected for the International Panorama at Manchester International Short Film and Animation Festival in the UK and was finalist at the Pakistan International Film Festival 2018. It has also been selected and screened at festivals in Argentina , Cyprus, Norway, Perú (Festival de Cine de Lima), Romania and USA.

He has completed three new film projects in Valparaíso, Chile, ¨Ellos¨ (2019) - Selected for the Oficial competition at GRABA Iberoamerican Festival 2019, Argentina, Nominated for the CIne.Ar Award at GRABA and Official Selection for the Festival Cinema Ciudad de México 2019 - ¨Giros¨ (2019) - Official Selection Vancouver International Film Festival 2019 and Patrimonio, his first creative documentary, part of the Official Competition of DOCSValparaíso 2020, Chile. He has both a long documentary and a feature film project currently under development.

Our aim with this film is to make people reflect on how gender discrimination, empowered by media, affects women and society in Latin America.
