M.E. Baird (Mathew Ede Baird) is a visual artist, singer/songwriter and educator who loves to explore his love of the arts in many disciplines, allowing them to inform each other.

His current works explore via the use of drawing, film, music and performance the notion of relativity and plurality. They investigate ideas of place, landscape (territory) and memory.

“I’ve always been fascinated by landscape, not in the literal sense but in a figurative sense. My landscapes are more surreal; they are places of the imagination or territories of the mind. I place objects such as boats, boxes and walls in the landscape like figures. Although they seem inanimate at first glance you soon find that they become more animated the longer you look."

As an educator and academic M.E. Baird has 20 years of teaching experience and research skills. He has held lecturing positions at UNSW, College of Fine Arts, RMIT University and Deakin University in the areas of Visual Arts, Public Arts, Performing Arts, Creative Theory, Architecture and Urban Design. He has also won several awards for teaching excellence.

In 2015 M.E. Baird relocated from Victoria to the historic township of Bangalow in Northern New South Wales. M.E. Baird has left full time academia to spend more time on his music, touring, art practice and occasionally teaching at
(BS'A) The Byron School of Art.
