Brooklyn Basketball
When a naturally talented player like Isaiah Whitehead is playing at a historic basketball high school like Lincoln, the expectations are nearly set in stone. For his three senior class teammates, nothing is set and there is no stone. The Brooklyn basketball greats of the past, those that essentially defined the way that the game is played, tell us what it took for them to make it (or not) besides just talent. John Salley, Fly Williams, Albert King, Pearl Washington, Lenny Wilkens, and others alongside the 2013-14 Abraham Lincoln High Basketball Team take us on a trip to explain what makes the '4th Largest City in the Country' so special.

DIRECTOR’S BIOGRAPHY:
Whether from behind a monitor, or clutching the camera himself, Duffy's directorial approach to storytelling is an intimate and visual affair. He's brought his fresh and dynamic aesthetic to Levi's for ESPN, Citi for the Olympics, TJ Maxx for the Holidays and to Kiehl's for motorcycle ride across 1800 miles of Americana. Duffy dives into directing headfirst in order to conceptualize clients' and brands' belief systems. He infiltrates crowds in order to showcase the emotions of attending a festival. He removes crew and works with actors alone in a room to create intimacy. He crafts storylines so that an audience can connect to a sentiment and ultimately evoke an opinion. These spots, webisodes, music videos, short films and documentaries have been festival nominated, award-winning, community showcased, celebrity blogged, classroom professed, and client praised. Most recently he’s worked with ESPN, Victoria's Secret, Maybelline, Levi's, Comedy Central, Google, Skype, Citi, Kiehl's, Sony Music and Women's Health, while currently showcasing his first feature length documentary: Brooklyn Basketball. Duffy was born and raised in Miami, FL; college educated in the great state of Alabama and has called New York City "home" since pre-Y2K.
He served as an Associate Producer on Mow Crew in 2009-10.
He's an international award-winning director with his short film "La Prochaine Fois" in 2013
His short documentary "THIS IS A BIG DEAL" screened at the first Foodable Film Festival in Chicago, 2016
His first feature-lenghty documentary, "BROOKLYN BASKETBALL", is currently on the film festival circuit.
ARTISTIC STATEMNT:
I wanted to explore the reason for Brooklyn's relationship to the game of basketball and what exactly that sport has provided in order for Brooklyn to be “it's own universe.”
While there is a one mega-hyped player who is that next prodigal son of brooklyn basketball, the overarching attempt is to survey the journeys of the less-hyped teammates and what 'making it' means to them.
