Guillermo Planel was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, and lives in Rio de Janeiro since 1971. He is a journalist, photographer, documentary filmmaker, Bachelor of Social Communication from FACHA and post-graduate in Communication and Image from PUC-RIO.
In the area of journalism, he never worked in newspapers or TV newsrooms, but wrote for several publications, mainly in Brazilian photography magazines. As a photographer, he has 36 years of activity in several areas of the profession, having worked in corporate photography until the year 2013.
In the 80's, he worked in the production of shows mainly in the international area, with Latin American artists such as Ruben Rada, Pablo El Enterrador, Arco Iris and Charly Garcia, as well as acting in charge of the video and producer of Circo Voador shows in the 90s.
He was creator and partner of the Technical Course of Cinema and TV (CT2), with Jorge Monclar, in 1998/1999. During this period, CT2 trained several video and film technicians in script courses, photography direction, production assistant, assistant director, publicity cartoon, continuity, camera assistant, editing and editing.
As a documentary filmmaker, one of the main focuses of his work is the relationship of the press and photojournalism with civil society, through issues involving issues related to human rights, communication, demonstrations, armed conflicts and public safety. Social issues involving various types of conflicts and their representation in society have been a constant line of work from a journalistic and documentary point of view.
