NOMFUNDO

Nomfundo is a short film about a tormented and impulsive young woman who is pregnant with her first child. When Nomfundo is betrayed by the two people she holds dear to her heart, she makes an erratic decision that unleashes a tragic chain of events. She flees from the repercussions of her actions and has a transcendental encounter that changes the course of her life forever.

Director Biography

Award-winning writer/director Sihle Hlophe is multi-degree earner, a Hot Docs Blue Ice Docs Grantee and a National Fellow at the University of Cape Town’s Institute For Creative Arts. Hlophe has written and directed two narrative shorts and a handful of documentaries. Her work has been screened at film festivals as far afield as the North America, Europe and Africa. Hlophe has worked as a scriptwriter and story-liner for popular TV shows aired on all major broadcasters in South Africa. Hlophe has also worked as a content director, production manager and post-production supervisor for various production companies. Her work promotes minority languages and gives a platform to marginalized voices.
