A PILGRIMAGE INTO TIBET
To acknowledge the 60 year freedom struggle of the Tibetan people and their leader, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, eight intrepid pilgrims take on an epic pilgrimage trek through remote Nepal into occupied Tibet, to walk around Mount Kailash, Asia's most sacred mountain. Confronting altitude, officialdom and their own physical limits, their journey reveals seldom seen experiences of todays' Nepal and Tibet. in summer 2019.

Mark Gould is a producer, writer and director with a lifetime’s experience in Australian theatre, film and television. Mark has run his own production company for the past 25 years, as well as contract stints within the ABC producing and direction for 4 Corners, Foreign Correspondent and Compass.
In the last 2 years he made over 140 short videos for the web in the fight to stem the tide of neo-liberal destruction in Sydney.
His documentaries have been commissioned nationally and internationally by the BBC, ABC, SBS, Nat Geo, Arte, YLE, RBTF, RTE and others.

TIBET: Murder in the Snow (Nov 2008) commissioned by BBC & SBS with YLE TSR and RTBF and NAT GEO. This film won best film at NYC Home Planet Festival 2010. People’s Choice Award at Flagstaff Mountain Film Festival 2009. Award of Excellence at Accolade Mountain Film Festival. This film screened to over 2 million viewers on the BBC and has played at many other major festivals.
A Winners’ Guide to the Nobel Prize 2006 was commissioned by ABC Science in 2006 and won the Golden Dragon Award for Best Science film at Beijing Film Festival and was nominated for a Eureka Prize.

His landmark series Moulin Rouge Girls 2004 still holds the ABC ratings record for an ABCTV half hour series. It was nominated for a Logie and sold worldwide.

Mark began his career as a theatre director and was inevitably drawn to film making. Theatre highlights include:- ‘Boys’ Own McBeth’, Australia & USA. ‘Looking through a Glass Onion’ Australia & UK Off Broadway Edinburgh Fest. Artistic Director of the Flying Fruit Flies Children’s Circus and Producer both Australian tours by Peter Brook’s Centre for International Theatre Creations for the Adelaide Festival. Incl. The Mahabharata Adelaide and Perth.
Plus directing TV serial drama and 40+ documentaries including
Moulin Rouge Girls - which holds the ratings record for ABC TV and has been sold all around the world. TIBET: Murder in the Snow (Nov 2008) broadcast on BBC 2 (est. 5 million viewers in UK). Beginning with ‘a pig a chicken and a bag of rice’, Mark has made 7 films with the Buddhist communities of the Himalayas in India and Nepal.
This is a personal film and the 4th in a series about Pilgrimage. It was made to acknowledge the 60 year freedom struggle of the Tibetan people and their leader, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama. This is the 6th film made by this director in the Himalayas with or about the Tibetan refugee community.
