CHASING STARS
“If you cry because the sun has gone out of your life, your tears will prevent you from seeing the stars.” Rabindranath Tagore
Relax and enjoy the world of endless stars, snowy mountains and the music of world renowned composer Ludovico Einaudi. Filmed over a period of five years, Markus' project "Chasing Stars" shows the Swiss Alps in a 'never-before-seen' way of magic nights at high altitudes (8000-11'000 feet above sea level).

Markus is a photographer from Switzerland. His passion is to travel and to explore different cultures and natural wonders. He likes to capture the beauty of our planet. Within the last 15 years, Markus traveled around the world covering more than 80 countries. His photos have been published in several magazines. In the last two years, he dedicated many months to shoot the stars in the beautiful Swiss Alps.
His goal is to create a special atmosphere, either with still images or with long exposure time-lapse films. The short time-lapse film "Mystic Jungfraujoch” has been part of the official selection of 14 International Film Festivals (including VIFF, Vancouver International Film Festival) and received 3 awards for Best Foreign Short (Atlanta DocuFest 2015), Platinum Award (Spotlight Documentary Film Award) and for Best Cinematography (Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival).
Markus’s biggest assignment as a photographer so far has been a documentary covering all 31 stadiums for the Beijing Olympics in 2008. Some of the photos were published in a Special Edition of the Sports Illustrated magazine in China, others were sold through the gettyimages distribution channel. His expertise lies in landscape, architecture, people, wildlife photography and filming.
I finally managed to finish this project after working on it for 5 years. It has been a long journey with many sleepless nights high up in the mountains.
What I would like to achieve, with this short film, is to make people relax for a moment and enjoy the beautiful music of Ludovico Einaudi together with my visual work. To be able to 'switch off', forget about the daily problems and dive into a dream-like world of natural beauty.
