The Gift

Udugore (The Gift) is an Indian Regional Language (Kannada) short-film which promotes gender-equality and signifies the importance of girls or women, who are often subjected to discrimination, abuse, violence and lack of equal opportunities in today's society. This short-film also explores the true meaning of donation and highlights eye-donation as the single most sacred kind of donation in this world.

The protagonist is a very bright, naturally curious and intelligent young girl. She is on the verge of her teens, and struggles with nightmares of her wayward father wanting a boy-child instead of her and constantly having to prove herself as being worthy because she is a girl.
The protagonist' mother is a strong-willed woman, who is constantly encouraging her to be independent, brave and a role-model in this society which is always biased against a girl-child.
The protagonist' class-teacher, educates her with the true significance of a girl in this world and inspires her to be kind, honest and righteous.
The protagonist is determined to make her mother proud and her father understand the significance of a girl-child.
The protagonist' journey involves a quest to understand the true meaning of donation and a chance encounter with a blind-girl inspires her to take a significant decision early in life. She becomes a role-model to society, that giving without any expectation of fruitful returns is the true meaning of donation.
