Writer Statement

I have been working on this screenplay for 5 years. I wrote several drafts of the pilot and also completed writing 3 seasons, 12 episodes each to be developed. I started with the initial idea of having a show with diverse characters from different ethnicities in 2012 before this idea became such a trend topic in the industry. My show has 7 diverse characters that are also a mirror to many artists and filmmakers struggle to make their dreams come true all over the world. I had the opportunity to develop my screenplay for the last few years. To get better at writing I enrolled to the Professional Screenwriting Program at UCLA to learn more about the structure and polish my skills. I signed up with an Improv Comedy Group and got improv acting classes. I came together with other writers to brainstorm ideas and get feedback. I have done table readings with up and coming actors from The American Academy of Dramatic Arts. I have an interest both in Drama and Comedy writing. Ideally I would like to mix the two genres and come up with Dramedy. I’ve been watching a lot of Netflix and HBO shows to keep myself up to date with the current shows. My favorite comedy shows on HBO are: Veep, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Girls and Insecure. I had a chance to go to WGA and listen to the actors and writers in a conference, which encouraged me to apply to your program. I also like the drama shows such as Westworld and Young Pope. I like being versatile and not limiting myself with one genre.
