THE LADIES OF MY FAMILY

Z is an anthropology student. She observed the life of sexual minorities in Pakistan inside the red-light area of Lahore. This film recorded the life of a hidden world which has not known to the commons.
Z kept a mom-daughter relationship with a head of the sexual minority group khawaja sara and stayed with her. She recorded their daily life, dance and business while their interaction with other people. To her surprise, government and majority people have good intentions to help the sexual minorities, but various characters providing alternative and contradictory versions of understanding to them. The interview has also crossed the border to India for tracing the indelible folk cultural relation between two countries.

Director Biography - LIU GAOLI

The director was born in Beijing, China. Her Master degree was given by Peking University China in South Asian study. The degree thesis was on the folk culture of Punjab Pakistan. She is now involved in the PhD. program of cultural anthropology in Kyoto university, Japan. In recent years, she spend most of the time in Pakistan, where she sees as second homeland.
