Inspired by the Twilight Zone era and classic shows of its kind, Stephen Herman and David Chin set out to reaffirm the idea of “story” and the basic elements that make one. In this effort, they created Broken Box, Inc. in hopes of bringing an old notion to a new generation.
True believers in the idea “less is more,” they were intrigued by the impact the late 1930’s live radio drama series Mercury Theater had on its audience. The series’ infamous episode The War of the Worlds pushed its listeners to the brink of panic through the sheer use of sound. Hoping to recreate that impact, and limited to their own funding, the two set out on a mission to demonstrate that a good story and a camera are the key ingredients to great film making. The result; simple, yet gripping tales layered with everyday lessons for human society and the questioning of its own morals.
Fusing together twenty first century imagery and that classic live radio feel, the byproducts of Broken Box, Inc. will have something for both the old and new; forcing its viewers to not simply think outside of the box, but to dismantle it altogether.
