Ms. Rachel Benjamin is a Haitian-American filmmaker who grew up in Boston Massachusetts. She holds a M.F.A. from Columbia College Chicago and a B.A. from Boston College. She has received a National Endowment of the Arts Media Fellowship for her work. Her script "Breath, Eyes Memory" was a finalist for the Emerging Narrative Award at the Independent Feature Market. Rachel's fifth narrative short film. “The Missing Peace” screened in more than twenty-five film festivals in the U.S. and internationally, including the Cannes Film Festival. It is a film adaptation of the same title from a collection of short stories called Krick Krack written by Haitian-American author Edwidge Danticat. In 2013 Rachel was a finalist at the Urban World Film Festival in the screenplay competition her pilot script Diary of a Retail Girl. Also currently working on her debut feature film According To Diana a drama/comedy about a character named Diana that is failing at adulthood and living in Miami FL.
I want to make comedies/dramas that show black women or women of different backgrounds who are just trying to make it through life in a quirky way.
